The Pilot Project
Creating the Conditions
In 2005, the national charity Teacher Support Scotland joined with Fife and Renfrewshire councils to pilot a staff wellbeing project. The ‘Creating the Conditions’ pilot ran for a two year period and involved over one thousand teachers and support staff from eighteen schools and nursery centres across both councils.
The project, funded by the Scottish Executive in partnership with Fife and Renfrewshire councils, promoted a strategic approach towards improving wellbeing at work. It raised the profile of wellbeing in the pilot schools and centres, and provided them with a framework for developing practices to increase staff morale and improve organisational effectiveness.
The success of the approach was linked in part to its practical nature; it was about ‘doing things differently rather than doing different things.’
